Household and family in Kaixiangong: a re-examination

China quarterly (93) • Published In 1983 • Pages: 76-89

By: González, Nancie L. Solien.

Abstract
The author visited Kaixiangong in the summer of 1981 for an update of the renowned village/commune studies by Fei (1946) and Geddes (1963). The primary focus is on population, female infanticide, family and household structure, and the effects of family planning; some consideration is also given to land use, housing, and transportation. The previous researchers’ approaches to population statistics are critiqued.
