Abstract
This book is a summary of changes introduced into the traditional religious and quasi-religious beliefs and attitudes in China by socio-cultural changes during the last fifty years. The author treats changes in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and discusses the evolution of Islam in China. Separate chapters are devoted to the respectively representative collective beliefs of the masses and the intellectuals. There is considerable discussion of the content of the various new trends of thought in each religious group. A bibliography of Western works with the transliterated titles of Chinese books and periodicals is given.
