Abstract
This book is the first detailed study of the Chinese land system and farm economy, using modern statistical methods. Emphasis is placed on land utilization, farm ownership and tenancy, crops, livestocks, and farm labor efficiency. Incomplete data makes the sections on family size, food consumption, and the standard of living less reliable than the rest. The survey was carried out with the help of 15 field workers, who spent entire years in the field during the period of 1921-1925. Reproductions of the questionnaires used are included in the appendices.
