Abstract
This essay surveys the major forms of psychiatric health care available in Taiwan and discusses its delivery in the social and cultural context of various classes of the island's inhabitants. Tseng is concerned with the development of modern scientific clinical practice as well as with 'supernatural' healing practices such as shamanism, fortune-telling, and physiognomy.
