AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This essay examines the differences between Chinese-style and Western-style doctors, particularly differences in the doctor-patient relationship. It appears that there is at least one context in which women and older people find Chinese-style doctors and medicine more satisfactory, that Chinese-style doctors tend to confirm layman's notions about disease (unlike Western-style doctors), and that most people use Western-style doctors sometimes (pp. 214-215).
