Abstract
The purpose of this work is to examine belief and unbelief in the folk religion of Lei-ci-be (Ploughshare) village. Harrell discusses the history and social organization of the village, the practice of religion in the village, the methods and concepts employed in the study, the range of belief and unbelief, credibility of religious tenets, a typology of believers, religious belief and life experience, and belief and participation in religious practices.
