AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
In this paper, Omoto examines age groups on the island of Miyako, Okinawa. Age groups carry out various economic, political, and religious roles in the village, performing the same functions that descent groups do elsewhere in Okinawa. The migration of young people from the island since the 1960s has undermined the system and individual households have had to carry out some of the functions of the age groups.
