AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This book is a translation of a 1896 Japanese magazine article by an anonymous author. It depicts Okinawa life in the 1890s, but more interestingly conveys the Japanese attitude towards Okinawa. According to the translator Haring, Okinawans were regarded as poor cousins; somewhat backward and quaint; and a window to Japan's past.
