expand_more Description
Okayama is a prefecture on the Inland Sea in southwestern Honshu that is part of the core zone of Japanese history and culture. While the cities have long been commercial and industrial hubs, paddy rice is grown in rural areas along with some rushes for making tatami mats. Fishing dominates in coastal settlements. Below the village administrative level of the state, hamlets consist of lineage main and branch houses that include one to two conjugal or stem families. Buddhism and Shintoism are the major religions.
