Abstract
This is a fairly comprehensive treatment of the Korean kinship system based on eight years of fieldwork in fifty different communities. Yi discusses marriage, mourning grades, ancestor worship, family succession, and descent groups. He also discusses how urbanization and modernization have changed the kinship system. Part II includes an extensive description of Korean kinship terminology.
