Abstract
The author analyzes the original ethnography by Fei (1946), conveying an "ontology of realism" for women's lives in a rural peasant village through an examination of local practices and beliefs, especially ones regarding marriage and involving the stove god who represents the ancestry of wife-givers and the importance of non-agnatic relationships in the village.
