The Aymara of Chinchera, Peru: persistence and change in a bicultural context

University MicrofilmsAnn Arbor, Mich.Published In 1971 • Pages:

By: Hickman, John Marshall.

AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is an ethnographic study of ceremonies, magic and divination. Other subjects discussed are culture change, acculturation, and biculturalism. Chinchera, the community studied, is near the community that Tschopik studied (1946, 1951). When there is a gap in Hickman's ethnographic data due to lack of time in the field, he sometimes uses Tschopik's data. Information on attitudes, behavior and beliefs of the Aymara of Chinchera are included.
