Abstract
According to the authors the purpose of this study was to provide a medical profile of a hunting and gathering population; here the Dobe !Kung of northwestern Botswana. Truswell and Hansen chose three goals which they wished to achieve in this work: (1) to examine those kinds of medical conditions present or absent in the population, and their effects on the sample population; (2) to examine the incidence of heart disease among the !Kung; and (3) to investigate the nutritional status of the population under examination.
