AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is a detailed ethnographic analysis of the culture and social structure of an isolated Aran Island community, interwoven with historic documentation and prehistoric reconstructions. Contemporary observations are contrasted with nativistic and primitivistic accounts. There is particular focus on interwoven political, social, and religious structures, and their influence omn individual personality development. Processes of cultural change are viewed in the context of their social and ecological settings.
