This is a study of south Slavic (Serbian) folk-psychology and folk-medicine derived from the author's own field notes and used in conjunction with other previously published ethnographic data on the region. In her search for the origins of many of the practices described in the text, Kemp critically examines the vast body of data contained in south Slavic oral epics, and historical records dealing with the south Slavic medieval kingdoms.
