Abstract
Priklonski lived among the Yakut for a number of years in preparation for writing ethnological studies that were published during the latter part of the last century. Although there is included here no information concerning the field date for his study of the tribe, it is known from his book entitled THREE YEARS IN THE YAKUTSK TERRITORY that he lived in the region of the Yakut and had the opportunity to observe the tribe first-hand. Priklonski's article included here is concerned with the role of the shaman in curing illnesses among the people; the attitude and beliefs of the Yakut in connection with sickness and with death; and the Yakut funeral and burial customs, with particular emphasis upon the graves of different types to be found among this people. This is an informative article on funeral customs despite its short length. The entire article has been included in the files. Of especial interest is the page of drawings illustrating the types of graves of the Yakut.
