Abstract
This article compares the bank ornamentation of the three groups of Selkup: the Taz, Baishensk, and Narym. The author states which objects are decorated, how some of these objects are made, the different types of designs used, and the methods used for producing these designs. Emphasis is placed on the different types of ornamentation produced by these three groups, and an attempt is made to analyze these differences from an historical point of view. The influence of the Nenet Samoyed, the Ugrians, Ket, Mansi, and Khanti peoples on the types of designs produced by the three Selkup groups is also discussed. The information for this article was obtained during expeditions to the Taz and Baishensk Selkup from 1925 to 1928 and to the Narym Selkup in 1932 and 1933.
