Abstract
This brief article, written by a German government doctor who lived among the Yapese, concerns Yapese music, poetry, and dance. For each art form, the author describes prevalent themes and styles as well as occasions for performance and the role of the specialist or performer. Furthermore, the author provides a vivid description of dance costumes and adornment. The importance of these arts in Yap culture is emphasized.
