Abstract
This brief essay is concerned with stone ax and adze blades made and used in the Massim Archipelago and particularly in the Trobriand Islands. Subjects included are quarrying and importation into the Trobriands of the raw materials, shaping and polishing of the implements, technical utilization of these tools, the blades as tokens of value, and their role in the political and social life of the Trobrianders.
