The natives of Borneo: edited from the papers of the late Brooke Low, Esq.
Journal of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britian and Ireland • 22 • Published In 1893 • Pages: 22-64
By: Low, Hugh Brooke, Roth, H. Ling.
Abstract
This article is part of a series of descriptive accounts of Iban culture culled from Brooke Low's papers (for Part I, see 4: Roth, this file). The topics discussed here include agriculture, dwelling, slavery, clothing and ornaments, body painting and mutilation, hunting and fishing, boat building, weapons and warfare, headhunting, musical instruments and singing. There are also remarks on the allegation of cannibalism among the natives. Although lacking precise analysis, Mr. Low's accounts possess the color and immediacy of a resident observer.
