Abstract
This monograph focuses on changes in women's roles and authority in production, ritual, and local politics from 1920-1989, a period in which the economic base of Teotitlán del Valle changed from mercantile to commercial or circulation capital. Major emphasis in the book is on the multiple representations in Teotitlán of gender, class, and ethnicity and how they are used, particularly by women, to achieve goals and agendas (p. 8).
