Abstract
This study aims to clarify difficulties encountered in the linguistic analysis of kinship terminology in the Nahuatl dialect used by Aztec elites. It begins with a componential analysis of the terms, followed by an examination of their contextual appearance, finding that they can refer alternatively to social or to biological relationships.
