Abstract
This source is a survey of the development and prospects of music in the Mormon Church, covering the following topics: whether there is such a thing as Mormon music; Mormon musical scholarship; sociological aspects; borrowed music; indigenous music; hymn texts; leading composers; prominent Mormon compositions; music's role in the sacrament service; and Mormon popular religious songs. The Mormon author, a composer and music critic, tends to focus more on religion than on analysis of the music itself.
