Abstract
This article focuses on concepts of Navajo social solidarity as expressed by the residence group and the economic organization of sheep herding. Also addressed are residence rules, marriage, and political organization. The illustrations of hogans and other dwellings are worth noting. Conclusions address the flexibility of Navajo social organization and attempt to explain how concepts of individualism and communalism can be embraced into the same system.
