Abstract
This source examines Hopi history and, in particular, Hopi land use from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. The subject areas covered in the discussion of Hopi land use include animal husbandry, agriculture, hunting, collecting, the location and use of mineral resources, and the location and description of natural shrines and sacred places. This source also includes rather detailed summaries of Hopi prehistory, settlement pattern development, early contact with Whites, the physiography and climate of the Hopi territory, and Hopi archaeology and its implications for Hopi territorial claims. This source is based primarily on the published and unpublished reports of other authors, some of which appear in the NT09 Hopi file.
