Tübatulabal ethnography

University of California PressBerkeley • Published In 1938 • Pages: 1-90

By: Voegelin, Mrs. Erminie Wheeler.

Abstract
This major ethnography is based on observations made by the author during the summers of 1931 to 1933, and thereby does not completely cover the annual cycle of the Tubatulabal. On the other hand, informants give personal histories extending back to the mid-nineteenth century. Discussion focuses on the use of tobacco and jimsonweed, distributional evidence, and non-material culture; linguistic, acculturation, kinship, and physical anthropology are more sparingly covered.
