Abstract
This article describes the two types of Pomo doctor, the 'outfit doctor' and the madu or 'sucking' or 'dream' doctor, and Pomo witchcraft, which was usually in the form of poisoning. For each type the author discusses personnel, materials, methods, occasions and illustrative cases of treatment. Included is sufficient information on Pomo ideas about disease and the dependence on doctors to indicate their importance in the society, as well as the significance of witchcraft as a factor constantly affecting Pomo behavior and their understanding of events.
