Abstract
This article comes from a compilation of writings on the role of informants in ethnographic methodology, During research among the Southern Montana reservation Crow, the author cultivated a warm and personal relationship with his chief informant and interpreter. The account of participant observation is poignant and sensitive, especially the biographical notes on the informant's personal reconciliation between the forces of tradition and change.
