Abstract
Campisi describes in this article the culture history of the Oneida from the seventeenth to the late twentieth century (ca. 1970s). The author discusses the fur trade network, warfare, missionary influences, the Oneida's participation in the American Revolution and its aftereffects on the society, relations with the English and American governments, and the establishment of reservations. Various ethnographic comparisons are made to the Oneida living in New York and Wisconsin in the United States, and in Ontario, Canada.
