AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This work is a socio-historical study of the Syrian-Lebanese Christians in America. Although it deals in large part with their migration and assimilation experiences, it also contains data on the authors' attempt to organize the literature on Syrian-Americans, their Americanization, the relationship between Eastern rite Catholics (Melkites and Maronites), and the Roman Catholic Church, the transformation of identities, and the rise of ethnic consciousess among the Christian Arabs.
