Abstract
This is the postscript for the series of articles based on the life histories of NewYork City's Puerto Rican women garment workers (documents nos. 37, 57-59). We learn that these life histories were originally part of a slide show and radio documentary. Vasquez relates how the material was processed. The authors coded the interviews according to general themes and then focussed on common experiences, such as community struggles, raising children, and the socialization of women. In the articles the authors went a step further and placed the life histories in the histories of Puerto Rican immigration and New York's economy. Vasquez addresses the question of how representative the sample was of Puerto Rican immigrant women, as most of the women were low-level union officials. In spite of their relative success, their lives were one of struggle and overcoming adversity, which is the true measure of success according to Vasquez. This document includes the references for documents nos. 37 and 57-59.
