Abstract
This article is an introduction to the life history accounts of three Puerto Rican women living and working in New York City during the early to middle twentieth century. Their stories appear in this file as document numbers 57-59. Some limited information is also provided in this document on Puerto Rican immigration to New York City, women's work in the garment industry, and the significance of life histories, told as stories to younger generations, in imparting cultural values and experiences which may help these young people to shape their own particular life styles.
