Abstract
This document deals mainly with the status of women, and child training among the Lac-St-Jean Montagnais. In theory, the woman is regarded as being inferior to the male, but in practice she has full equality. Much inforamtion is given on the sexual division of labor in explanations as well as information on family life, religion, political status and economic life. In the section on child training, much incidental information is given on children's status, the ethno-sciences, medical practices and the effects of the Catholic religion on aboriginal life. The author was a Hudson's Bay Company factor and had spent several years among the Montagnais.
