Outlines of the geography, life and customs of Newfoundland-Labrador
Acta geographica • 8 • Published In 1944 • Pages: 575-700
By: Tanner, V..
Abstract
This document as a whole deals with the geography and cultural geography of the region. In addition to the listed pages, a map on p. 438 was processed and repaginated with HRAF pagination 591 (A). Tanner considers the Naskapi and Montagnais as separate groups, the distinctions resulting from a difference in environments. While some data are given on nonmaterial culture, the major part of the data concern the seasonal cycle of economic activities and migration. Use is made of documentary material, and considerable attention is paid to acculturation. The bibliography which forms pp. 831-892 of the full document is not included because it covers mostly non-cultural factors.
