Chippewa village: the story of Katikitegon

Cranbrook Press (25) • Published In 1947 • Pages: 259

By: Kinietz, William Vernon.

Abstract
This work, a good ethnographic presentation of Chippewa culture as it existed in 1939-1940, was based on studies undertaken by the author in several Indian communities in Michigan and Ontario. The data are compared with historic accounts of the same communities recorded on questionnaires concerning Indian customs that were sent to the Indian agent in the early 19th century. The author gives a detailed analysis of the midewiwin ceremony.
