Abstract
Koppert's dissertation on the Clayoquot, a sub-tribe of the central Nootka, is concerned mainly with material culture. It describes in detail the construction of houses and canoes; the making of tools, weapons, clothes, ornaments, toys, and musical instruments; and the getting and preparation of food. There is also information on the treatment of the sick, forms of recreation, warfare, potlatch, and burials. The author had been a missionary among the Clayoquot.
