Second general report on the Indians of British Columbia: II. the Nootka
Report of the sixtieth meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science held at Leeds in September 1890 • London • Published In 1891 • Pages: 582-604
By: Boas, Franz.
Abstract
This is a brief, general account of the culture of the Nootka stressing social organization, the potlatch, and ceremonial. Data are also given on games, music, art, religion and shamanism. Boas, a well known anthropologist, does not go into any great detail on any of these subjects, since this was essentially a progress report on his recent fieldwork in the area.
