Abstract
This study is part of a larger study of Alaskan coastal villages sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior. Its focus is the Aleutian-Pribloff Islands region. It includes a history and demography of the region from the Russian Period (1741-1867) through to the Land Claims Period (1960-1990). It also covers household and community organization, local economy, kinship, religion and identity. It is a good source for 1980s information, based on interviews with key informants from five communities: Atka, Nikolski, Saint Paul, Sand Point, and Unalaska.
