Abstract
This source contains detailed descriptions of and an analysis of Aleut hunting hats on the basis of specimens available in various Russian collections. Since these hats were elaborately ornamented, it is actually a study of Aleut artistic techniques. The author includes comparative data in an attempt to determine the origin of the different types of headgear and to determine ‘the place Aleutian art occupies among the painted products of the Paleoasiatics and Indians' The comparative material has not all been included here, but the author's conclusions are included.
