By: Mason, Terry.
Abstract
In this study Mason looks at one of the ways in which politically active CHICANAS (Mexican American women) represent and advocate a change in women's status through the dramatic performance of ACTOS, a type of political theater. Two of these dramas are examined by the author in the text. These '… performances are dramatizations of an ideology that defines some of the social and cultural expectations limiting women and indicates how they should be changed' (p. 95). Mason also attempts to further delineate some of the distinctive features of the CHICANA feminist ideology and to discuss some of the social and political factors influencing its expression.
