Abstract
This source is a part of a larger section in 'Paysans d'Afrique Occidentale' in which the author discusses types of social relationships. Toward this end, he uses the Wolof GAMOU, or the alliance between two extended families, one being SANGE (master) and the other being DYAM (servant), to exemplify one type of relationship in which insults are permitted. Information on the important role of the DYAM in relation to the SANGE on such occasions as religious celebrations, marriage arrangements, conflicts, death, agriculture, etc. is given.
