Abstract
This is a brief treatment of the status, activities and training of children among the Hausa. Some of the topics discussed are: desire for children, conception of the adult's role, infant training and ritual, weaning, toilet training, toys and play activities, learning of skills, etiquette, sexual differentiation, male and female economic activities, extension of social contacts, adolescent leisure activities including courtship patterns, and growth of attitudes toward authority from family relationships. At the time of publication the author was associated with the Social Science Research Council at Soba, Zaria Province, Nigeria.
