This article contains information on the interrelationship of the Muslim Somali and the 'Pagans' (Cushites) who were the original inhabitants of the area. The author's first chapter is primarily devoted to the relationship of the religions of the two groups. The remaining four chapters of the article are devoted to the establishment of the Muslim religious orders in Somaliland, their outstanding leaders, the activities of these orders in the agrarian economy and the relationship between Muslim law and the customary law of the Somali.
