Abstract
Hoogland writes about the 1980s post-revolution Iranian politics. He examines the constitutional framework, political institutions, and political events of that period. He discusses the power and role of the supreme authority of the FAQIH, the Presidency, Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Parliament (MAJLIS), Council of Guardians--who make sure legislation conforms to Islamic law--the judiciary, and provincial and local governments. He then discusses post-Revolution political events, such as the rise and fall of President Bani Sadr, the mass arrests and executions that followed his ouster, and the consolidation of Khomeni's power. In addition, Hoogland examines the domination of the Islamic Republican Party (IRP), political parties in exile, trend in mass political involvement, role of mass media, and foreign policy.
