Abstract
This study is an attempt to treat in a concise and objective manner the dominant social, political, economic, and military aspects of contemporary (i.e., up to 1987) Iranian society. Sources of information included scholarly journals and monographs, official reports of government and international organizations, foreign and domestic newspapers, and numerous periodical (p. xiii). Chapters in the text, each compiled by different authors, deal with the historical background of Iran, the society and its environment, the economy, government and politics, and national security
