Some Zulu concepts important for an understanding of fertility and other rituals

Abstract
This source is concerned with defining and clarifying the usage of seven concepts related to Zulu ceremonial practices. It is the author's contention that an understanding of such concepts will show how seemingly disparate ceremonial behaviors such as puberty rites, fertility ceremonies, rituals concerned with driving off epidemics and pests, and curing rituals are connected by a few underlying principles. Krige argues that all these ceremonial behaviors are concerned with securing health and fertility (for humans, flora and fauna in their environment) through the singing of songs and the performance of acts to drive out evil.
