Abstract
This source is an ecological study of the Central Kalahari San of the Kade area and is an attempt, in the author's words, 'to elucidate the original configuration of human society in order to discover the relationship between subhuman primate societies and human societies' (p. xi). The bulk of the source is concerned with an examination of the environment, subsistence and settlement patterns, and residential group dynamics of the Kade area San. In the conclusion of this source the author discusses the implications of his ecological study of the Kade area San for our understanding of the earliest forms of human society in Africa.
