Abstract
This survey of native administration in the western provinces of Nigeria is a part of a larger work which includes all of the British West African territories. The primary consideration of the author is to meet the need of colonial officials for information regarding administrative practices in areas other than those with which they are personally acquainted. Consequently the survey is written largely as a factual account based upon official sources and assumes a certain degree of background knowledge from its readers. The materials processed for the Files include general information on the population, economy, education, medical facilities, and ethnic distribution of the western provinces. The evolution of the political and administraive structure of the region in succinctly stated to provide background information for a detailed description of the present system.
