By: Bascom, William Russell.
Abstract
This work discusses the manner in which individual differences are viewed among the Yoruba of Ife, and the effect of wealth on the social status of individuals. The author has previously treated the factor of seniority in determining social position (see 4: Bascom, this file) and this article is a similar treatment of other factors. The author describes the different strata of Yoruba society, the social position and etiquette incidental to each, and the characteristics which cause the individual to be assigned to a particular stratum.
