Abstract
This work is concerned with the relationship between kinship organization and religious groups among the Yoruba. The author presents a summary of the kinship structure, the composition of religious groups in terms of kinship, and a comparison of the composition and function of the religious groups with the so-called 'secret societies.'Incidental to his treatment, the author includes information on the manner in which individuals become worshippers of particular deities, the nature of the deities, and the spread of their worship. His data consciously reflect the contradictions existing between ideal and observed patterns of behavior.
